We are a not-for-profit organisation based in Townsville who have been devoted to assisting vulnerable individuals, families and young people since 1974.
Our inaugural program Wee Care began when a need to provide crisis care to children arose after Cyclone Althea hit Townsville on Christmas eve in 1971. Wee Care was officially established in 1974 and we now deliver multiple programs across Townsville and surrounding areas.
Wee Care provides short-term care to children whose family is facing an emergency or crisis. This may be a medical emergency, a family emergency or the need for respite.
In addition, Wee Care has emergency relief funding available for families in need. A playgroup is also run weekly and is open to anyone in the Townsville community.
Althea Foster & Kinship Program recruits foster and kinship carers for both long-term and short-term placements.
We work alongside carers and provide them with ongoing support, training and child friendly activities as they provide a safe and stable place for children to call home.
Althea’s Community Hub supports people who are facing homelessness. We provide basic human needs such as a cooked meal, shower and laundry facilities.
Althea’s Community Hub supports people to access accommodation and other important support services so they can maintain their independence.
Financial assistance is available through Emergency Relief Funding to support and help reduce personal financial hardship for individuals and families.
It assists eligible people to deal with their immediate financial crisis in a way that maintains their dignity and encourages self-reliance.
At Morehead Meals we offer catering and grazing platters for your special event. We also offer a weekly menu of healthy, freshly cooked meals that are frozen for your convenience.
All profits are then used to provide meals to feed people facing homelessness at Althea’s Community Hub.
Reconciliation is at the heart of our organisation and is embedded in all of our programs and services.
Our RAP reflects our commitment to building strong, respectful relationships and creating opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
