Althea’s Community Hub

Althea’s Community Hub (ACH) is a day hub for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

This includes individuals who are socially isolated or vulnerable within the Townsville community. People can come to ACH to meet with others in a place where they are supported and valued.

You may be referred by another service, or you may refer yourself by contacting ACH for a referral form.

Althea’s Community Hub Facilities

The following facilities are available at ACH:

  • Complimentary tea and coffee
  • Lunch between 12.30pm and 1.00pm (gold coin donation)
  • Washing machine and washing powder
  • Dryer ($1 per 15 minutes)
  • Shower and toilet (towels and hygiene packs for $2)

Homelessness Support

Althea’s Community Hub offers Centre Based Support, Mobile Support, and Outreach Access.

  • Centre Based Support is face-to-face case management for individuals. This service can be accessed by individuals presenting in person at the hub in South Townsville.
  • Mobile Support provides assistance to people in public spaces, their own home, in temporary living situations, in supported housing, or in a community setting. This allows for assessment and appropriate referral.
  • Outreach Access is done by ACH 5 days a week. This involves going into the community to connect with people who are sleeping rough.

ACH provides the following support:

  • Assistance with finding short-term or long-term accommodation
  • Ongoing case management
  • Support in maintaining accommodation in either public or private housing
  • Referral to other community services including issue specific
